“Child Find”

Supporting Every Student’s Success

At Le Monde International School, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and reach their full potential. If a student is experiencing significant learning, developmental, behavioral, communication, or physical challenges that may be the result of a disability, we encourage families to contact us.

As required by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Oklahoma State Department of Education, Le Monde International School participates in Child Find, an ongoing process to identify, locate, and evaluate children who may be eligible for special education and related services.

Who Is Eligible?

Child Find applies to children ages 3 through 21 who may have a disability and require specially designed instruction. Referrals are welcomed for children and students who may be experiencing difficulties in areas such as:

  • Reading, writing, or mathematics
  • Speech or language development
  • Social, emotional, or behavioral functioning
  • Communication
  • Hearing or vision
  • Physical or motor development
  • Intellectual or cognitive development
  • Adaptive or daily living skills
  • Attention, executive functioning, or other learning concerns
  • Autism or other developmental disabilities

Who May Make a Referral?

A referral may be made at any time by:

  • A parent or legal guardian
  • A teacher or school staff member
  • A physician or other healthcare provider
  • An early childhood provider
  • A community agency
  • Any individual who has concerns regarding a child’s educational or developmental progress

What Happens After a Referral?

After a referral is received, the school will:

  1. Review available information and determine whether an evaluation is appropriate.
  2. Provide prior written notice and obtain parental consent before conducting an initial evaluation.
  3. Complete a comprehensive evaluation using a variety of assessment tools and strategies.
  4. Convene an eligibility team, including the parent or guardian, to review the evaluation results.
  5. Develop an Individualized Education Program (IEP), if the student is found eligible for special education services under IDEA.

Child Find and MTSS

Le Monde International School provides high-quality instruction and supports through its Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). While these interventions help many students succeed, they do not delay or prevent a referral for a special education evaluation when a disability is suspected.

Confidentiality

All information obtained through the Child Find process is treated as confidential and maintained in accordance with IDEA, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and applicable Oklahoma laws and regulations.
